Private Funeral Wednesday for Wis. Boy Found Dead in Trunk

A 2-year-old Wisconsin boy found dead in the trunk of a locked car on his family's property likely died soon after his family reported him missing, according to a medical examiner.

A Polk County Sheriff's deputy found Isaiah Theis' body last Wednesday when the owner of the car came to retrieve it from the family's property near Centuria, where Isaiah's father runs an auto repair business.

Isaiah had several sets of keys with him, according to the family's pastor and friend, Rick Van Gundy. He says among them was the key to the locked car in which Isaiah's body was discovered.

A preliminary autopsy report said Isaiah likely died of hyperthermia due to the heat.

In response to requests about the time of death, the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office says changes in Isaiah's body "were consistent with him dying soon after the time he was last known to be alive." The statement went on to say "It is most likely that Isaiah was deceased, or had experienced irreversible damage, by 9 p.m. if he was already in the trunk around the time it was reportedly realized he was missing."

Isaiah's parents told authorities they last saw him playing with his 7-year-old brother around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

A visitation was held from Tuesday at Trollhaugen Convention Center in Dresser, Wis.

A private funeral will take place Wednesday.
