North Minneapolis Kids Take a Stand Against Gun Violence

Children are dying in the Twin Cities as the victims of stray bullets and accidental shootings. But today kids are taking a stand against it.

Last June, 2-year-old Nizzel George died from a gang-related shooting in Minneapolis. Five months before, it was 3-year-old Terrell Mayes who was killed by a stray bullet. Hundreds of children today, say gun violence has to stop before it could be one of them.

One child or teen dies or is injured from guns every 30 minutes in our country.

Children from Freedom Schools are demonstrating that too often kids are victims in shootings with 102 of these kids wearing red T-shirts to represent the 102 children in Minnesota who have died from shootings in the past decade.

Freedom Schools is a summer literacy program all across the county. There are 800 Minnesota students enrolled in the program this summer.
