Minneapolis police say they have arrested the driver of a vehicle in a hit-and-run that killed a bicyclist last week.

The family of Jessica Hanson says someone hit her late Wednesday night when she was on her bike near 28th and Pleasant Avenue South. She was headed to her boyfriend's house.

Police say the incident happened at about 10:30 p.m. Hanson was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center where she died Friday around 10:21 a.m.

Twenty-four-year-old Abdirahman Abdi Ali was arrested at 10 a.m. Monday and is facing possible Criminal Vehicular Operation charges. Officers found the suspect vehicle Friday evening with the help of witness information, and Ali turned himself in at the MPD Homicide Unit Monday.

According to state driving records, Ali has a canceled license. The records also stated that Ali failed to appear or pay a fine in August 2012 in Dakota County, and January 2011 in Ramsey County. In March 2011, Ali was accused of driving with no insurance in Hennepin County; and in June 2008 he was accused of a similar violation in Ramsey County.

According to court records, Ali has been convicted of disorderly conduct, carrying a pistol in a public place, fleeing police in a vehicle and giving a false name to police.

Before the arrest, the Hanson family gathered to remember their daughter and ask for the driver to come forward.

"We're not out for blood, it's not an eye for an eye type of deal, but we want justice too. And the sooner you come to the better it's going to be for that person and for us," Hanson's father said.

People in the Whittier neighborhood say speeding down Pleasant and 28th Street and running stop signs goes on all day. The city confirmed that its Public Works Department is looking into the problem.
