Entire neighborhoods were transformed in Friday's storm that hit the Twin Cities.

"It was just get the hell out of here," said south Minneapolis resident, Steve Eue.

Eue and David Weseloh pulled into their driveway during Friday night's storm - narrowly missing the tree falling onto their garage.

"We were backing out as that was falling down," said Eue, who has lived in the neighborhood for 25 years.

Lightning tore down the 80-foot tall, 150-year-old cottonwood, which destroyed seven properties during its fall.

"I had no idea," said Eue. "I had no idea it was that bad."

Four trunks growing from the base of the tree split and fell in four separate directions in the storm.

"Their house is crushed, their house is damaged, their house is crushed ..." Eue said, pointing pointed across his backyard.

As Eue adjusts to the new empty space in the sky, neighbor Bret Indrelee is looking for an adjuster to survey the tree's new location - inside his living room.

"Feeling like its going to be a long day of phone calls," said Indrelee.

But the insurance companies are backed up, and so far, every tree removal service he's called is booked for days.

"I guess I'll just wander my way through this," said Indrelee.

Neighbors with power are helping where they can, offering to charge cell phones or provide a place to spend the night.
