I-35W NB Reopens in Bloomington After 5 Vehicle Crash
All lanes of Interstate-35W northbound are back open at 82nd Street in Bloomington, after a five-vehicle crash closed the freeway entirely Friday afternoon.
Eight people were injured, none of the injuries were serious, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
The crash was first reported at 12:22 p.m. Friday, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Lt. Eric Roeske tells KSTP the crash happened when traffic was slowing for congestion. He said a semi didn't slow down, and it caused a chain reaction crash.
Traffic was diverted at 82nd Street, causing a backup on the freeway.
All lanes were back open by 2 p.m.
The crash comes on one of the busiest travel weekends of the year. From Thursday through Monday, 31.2 million Americans will drive 50 miles or more to a beach, campground or other getaway, according to car lobbying group AAA.
