Benefit Held For MN Couple Battling Different Deadly Diseases
A husband and wife, both battling incurable illnesses, just as their children are just beginning to grow up.
On Saturday, friends, family, and a community came together to show their support for the parents and their two young children.
It looked like a Saturday afternoon at any bowling alley in America. But this day -- and this family -- is anything but ordinary.
"It gives you perspective on life, and what's really important," said Andrea Kryzer.
Dan and Andrea Kryzer are high school sweethearts, and were blessed with two beautiful children, Ella and Jax.
But in 2009, Andrea was diagnosed with breast cancer, and Dan was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.
"We take every day at a time," Andrea said.
Andrea had a double mastectomy, but the cancer returned in her bones. Dan has grown weaker, and is now confined to a wheelchair.
"The disease is a daily struggle," Dan Kryzer said.
"To hear what's he's going to be going through is absolutely gut-wrenching," said Pay Meyer, a longtime friend of the Kryzers who helped organize Saturday's benefit fundraiser, called "Karing for the Kryzers."
"It's a reunion of sorts. It's a reunion of our family, our friends, our co-workers," Andrea Kryzer said.
"amazing. A lot of friends and family," Dan Kryzer said.
While Dan and Andrea Kryzer both face uncertain futures, they want to make sure their children don't.
"The biggest concern with Dan and Andrea was to make sure that their children are taken care of," Meyer said.
That's why all the money raised is going to Ella and Jax.
"Our kids keep us going. They're amazing," Andrea Kryzer said.
And it's scenes like these that the Kryzers say every parent should live for.
"Don't take anything for granted. Don't take a minute for granted with your kids," Andrea Kryzer said.
"Don't cheat yourself day in and day out. Live for the moment," Dan Kryzer said.
The other wish the Kryzers have is to bring more attention and awareness to the diseases they're fighting. They said more needs to be done to find a cure for cancer and ALS.
If you'd like to donate to the Kryzer children, you can do so at any Wells Fargo bank location. Just ask to contribute to the Jax and Ella Fund Trust.
