A man, who sexually assaulted a student from St. Catherine University, has been sentenced to more than 21 years in prison for the assault.
Louis Richard Oliver, 48, of Hastings, pleaded guilty earlier this month to first-degree criminal sexual conduct involving the Nov. 19 attack. The woman was walking near the university in Riverside Park, 2700 Eighth St. S. in Minneapolis.
Oliver was sentenced in Hennepin County District Court to 21 1/2 years in prison.
According to court documents, Oliver forced the woman into the woods, claiming he had a gun, and then sexually assaulted her.
On Nov. 27, security officers at Regions Hospital in St. Paul stopped a suspicious suspect, later identified as Oliver, who matched a composite sketch of the suspect involved in the attack. Oliver was arrested on an unrelated outstanding warrant.
The attack had a major impact on college students. Dozens of community impact statements were submitted to the court.
