Metals Meant for Recycling Invite Scavengers
The City of Minneapolis is warning residents about recycling scavengers. According to city officials, as much as $1 million a year in revenue is lost because metals left for city pick-up are being stolen.
Inspector Tony Diaz with the Minneapolis Police Department says the practice is widespread. "It is a source of money for them, but it's illegal," he said.
The city wants residents to wait to put out recyclable materials until their scheduled pick-up day, and to call police when scavengers are spotted in a neighborhood.
