U Player Wins Top Award for Women's Hockey

Amanda Kessel, a Gopher women's hockey player, has won the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award.

Kessel, of Madison, Wis., is a junior forward at the University of Minnesota, according to The USA Hockey Foundation, which presented the award. The 16th annual award is presented to the top player in the NCAA Division I women's ice hockey.

Kessel was honored in a ceremony at the University of Minnesota. She was selected among a group of top-three finalists, including her teammates Megan Bozek, of Buffalo, Ill., and Nora Räty, of Espoo, Finland.

Her team plays Boston University on Sunday at Ridder Arena for the national championship.
