Minneapolis Police Investigate Fatal Standoff
Minneapolis police held a news conference Saturday regarding a hostage and standoff incident Friday night.
A man died - possibly from a self-inflicted gunshot wound - after he allegedly shot another man and held a woman hostage inside a Minneapolis apartment building.
Police responded at about 10:30 p.m. to Riverside Plaza, an apartment building at 1515 Fourth St. S. on a report of shots fired, according to a Minneapolis Police Department release Saturday.
When officers arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound, police said. Paramedics transported the man to Hennepin County Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
Police learned that the alleged suspect had fled to an apartment inside the building where he took a woman hostage, according to police. A SWAT team investigated the scene, along with hostage negotiators, who successfully negotiated the release of the woman.
Police deployed a robot into the apartment. The robot found an unresponsive man inside, according to police. The suspect was dead, possibly with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner is expected to release the man's name and cause of death.
