"Publishers Clearing House Scam" Costs Man Thousands

Scammers are targeting families saying they've won the Publishers Clearing House, even though that contest is not involved at all.
    
Kim Nichol's 77-year-old father started getting flooded with phone calls from Jamaica with crooks impersonating government officials. They were demanding tax money before he could get the prize.

"He lost more than $85,000. It’s devastating," said Nichol.

Minnesota lawmakers are supporting legislation to protect older Minnesotans from wire fraud.
    
The bill would require companies to confirm where the money will go and who picks up the money.
    
It would also put senders on a "do not send" list to prevent repeated transfers.
