South High School Students in Mpls Demonstrate for Change
Hundreds of students staged a walkout at South High School in Minneapolis Monday.
They said it was meant to be a peaceful, unified demonstration for change. Students say they want more awareness for cultural and ethnic diversity.
That subject has been a high-profile topic at South ever since a cafeteria fight last month that was allegedly started by tensions between different ethnic groups.
The students who walked out will have a "unexcused absence" on their attendance records for the day, but will be welcomed back to class tomorrow.
A spokesperson for Minneapolis Public Schools said they were aware a walkout was a possibility and are disappointed it happened.
