Witness: Downtown Mpls. Shooting Started with Fight
Police have identified the victim in a Sunday morning shooting in downtown Minneapolis as 26-year-old Demetrius C. Patterson, according to a police report.
Patterson reportedly drove himself to the Hennepin County Medical Center with a gunshot wound in his arm Sunday morning around 3 a.m., according to the Minneapolis Police Department dispatch.
The shooting happened near 4th Street and Hennepin Avenue downtown Minneapolis.
The victim does not have life-threatening injuries. The gunman and the victim were not at the scene when police arrived.
Police have made no arrests.
Thirty-four-year-old Lonnie Davis of Minneapolis, a security guard at Augie's nightclub - near where the shooting happened - said he saw about 8 to 10 people fighting at the intersection before hearing a gunshot.
He described the scene as a "big crowd out there fighting" during bar close.
When Davis saw the gun, he said, "I had to back myself up because I didn't want to get hit." It was "kind of scary." Davis said the gunman and the victim ran away after that.
