Free Therapy Offered to Minnesota Veterans

The EMDR Humanitarian Assistance Program is partnering with therapists across Minnesota in an effort to help underserved veterans.

It's part of the Minnesota Resilience Project for Veterans, which has trained therapists across the state in EMDR therapy.

In a nutshell, EMDR therapy attempts to connect triggers that result in disturbing memories with positive thoughts or feelings or simply eliminate or lessen the disturbing memory following a trigger.

One veteran tells 5 Eyewitness News it's similar to reprogramming a memory.

The therapy is being paid for thanks to a private grant. Up to 100 veterans in Minnesota can take advantage of the therapy.
