A fight at South High School Turns Into a Riot

A fight broke out Thursday, South high school third period lunch. Jarrod Beard was in the lunch room when the fight broke out.

"Chaos, this is war, violence," Beard said.

Students say, the fight came in waves from first through third period lunch. Chairs hurled and punches are thrown.

"I just saw this one girl get hit by another girl, then I saw this guy hop in and hit a girl. Then after that everybody just started fighting," Victor Flagg said.

Staff and police quickly got things under control.

The district sent out a release. South high school was placed on a precautionary code yellow lockdown due to a food fight that escalated into a physical fight. Staff members responded immediately to the incident and followed proper security procedures.

Carmen Gonzalez says, food had nothing to do with this fight.

"I had third lunch. I didn't see no food fighting like going around. I saw a lot of kids punching each other," Gonzalez said.

Guled Omar says, it's been an ongoing problem that escalated.

"We had students fighting everywhere. We had chairs being thrown. We had people being taken to the emergency room, girls being hit," Omar said.
