School Leaders Meet With Parents on Mound School Closing
School leaders from Our Lady of the Lake Catholic School in Mound, MN will meet with parents tonight at 7:00 to discuss the decision to close the school at the end of the school year.
In a letter signed by the Archbishop of Saint Paul and Minneapolis The Most Reverend John C. Nienstedt said he has "accepted the recommendation of your local leaders that your school close at the end of the 2012-2013 school year."
The letter reads, "Leaders and other stakeholders carefully examined demographic, financial and other data in making a realistic recommendation regarding the school's lack of viability." The school was in operation for 61 years.
A spokesperson for the Archdiocese says the school is closing due to "financial data and demographic trends."
Parents are now working to create their own district to help boost enrollment and keep a faith-based school operating in the area. They will hold their own meeting at the school at 6:30pm before meeting with school leaders.
