FDA Approves New Flu Vaccine

The FDA has approved a new type of flu vaccine called Flublok.

The developer, a company called Protein Sciences, says the process does not require the flu virus to be grown in chicken eggs.

Instead, insect cells are programmed and grown in steel tanks.

The FDA says this method allows for more rapid production. This means a vaccine could be ready weeks earlier in the event of a pandemic.

Limited supplies of Flublok should be available this winter.
