Mother, Daughter Escape after Car Lands in Red Cedar River

A Twin Cities woman fell asleep at the wheel and woke up with her vehicle in the median just before the Red Cedar River, and still going.

Authorities say the woman was driving westbound on Interstate 94 around 5:39 a.m. in Dunn County near Menomonie, Wis.

The 21-year-old was later identified as Daniella L. Overett of Elko, Minn.

Overett's vehicle continued past the median, into the side of the eastbound bridge, over the embankment and landed on the ice in the Red Cedar River.

Overett was able to get out of the partially submerged vehicle with her 23-month-old daughter.

The two were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The left lane of the highway was closed briefly while authorities removed the vehicle.
