Gov. Walker Sets Day of Mourning After Conn. Shooting

Gov. Scott Walker and other governors have proclaimed Friday a "Day of Mourning" in memory of those who died in last week's Connecticut school shooting.

Walker asks that residents across the state observe a moment of silence at 9:30 a.m. local time. He also asks that government and religious officials whose buildings have bells ring the bells 26 times at that moment, once for each of the victims.

A gunman opened fire Dec. 14 at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. Twenty-six people were killed, including 20 children.

Connecticut Gov. Dan Malloy asked other governors to join him in declaring Friday a day of mourning. Walker complied, saying the people of Wisconsin join with citizens across the country in mourning and honoring the victims and their families.
