Mpls Police: Woman Brought Gun to School in Response to CT Shooting

A staff member at Seward Montessori Elementary in Minneapolis is on administrative leave Wednesday after bringing a gun to the school.

Students in grades K-8 attend the school, and weapons of any kind are prohibited on campus.

According to Minneapolis Police, a staff member in her late 50's had a .357 magnum in her purse, which was inside her locker at the school.

She mentioned the gun to her coworker, who contacted authorities.

Minneapolis Sgt. William Palmer said the woman brought the gun to school in direct response to the school shooting in Connecticut last Friday.

She does have a permit to carry, but violated that permit by bringing her firearm into the school.

The gun was secured by Minneapolis Police.

The staff member was removed from the school and is on administrative leave.

According to the school, no staff members or students were harmed or threatened in this incident.

The school was put on Code Yellow, which means students stayed in their classrooms for the remainder of the day.

A school resource officer and MPS safety are working to ensure safety at the school.
