Petraeus Letter: 'I Screwed Up Royally'
New details have been revealed about the affair that cost former CIA Director David Petraeus his job.
It's been almost three weeks since David Petraeus stepped down as head of the CIA after admitting to his relationship with Paula Broadwell.
Petraeus provided details about the affair in a letter to a friend and fellow general.
In the letter he said, "Dear Jim, I can't thank you enough for your note, kind words and support. I can't tell you how much it all meant. I screwed up royally. I paid the price appropriately."
ABC News reports long retired Brigadier Gerneral James Shelton says he's been friends with Petraeus for more than three decades.
He reached out to him after the scandal broke and says last week, Petraeus responded with the note.
Petraeus' admission of an affair with his biographer, Paula Broadwell, shocked Washington D.C. and the military.
Shelton said he never met Broadwell, but he spoke to her on the phone as she worked on her Petraeus biography.
He's thanked in the book's acknowledgments section as being 'wonderfully helpful.'
