Man Shot by Mpls. Officers Identified
The man hospitalized after a late-night shootout with Minneapolis Police has now been identified.
Police say 22-year-old David Tsehai Embaye of Minneapolis ran from the scene as they were responding to shots fired around 11 p.m. Wednesday, in the area of 37th Street East and Elliot Avenue South.
When officers arrived, they saw a suspicious vehicle leaving the area, so they conducted a traffic stop. Police say Embaye ran from the scene, leading to a chase.
Police say Embaye was shooting at officers as he ran, so four officers shot back and hit him. Embaye was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center and is expected to survive. He is under arrest at HCMC for Probable Cause Prohibited Person in Possession of a Firearm.
The driver of the suspicious vehicle was also arrested.
No officers were hurt, but they’re all on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure. The Three officers are Officers Walter Alvarado, Omar Foulkes and Brandon Kitzerow.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Minneapolis Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division at 612-673-2941.
