Law Enforcement Patrolling 13 Deadliest Counties

Law Enforcement will be stepping up patrols in the 13 deadliest counties in Minnesota for drunk driving.
Increased DWI enforcement will run through September 2013 for the following counties:
1. Hennepin
2. Ramsey
3. St. Louis
4. Anoka
5. Dakota
6. Olmsted
7. Washington
8. Stearns
9. Wright
10. Sherburne
11. Becker
12. Meeker
13. Otter Tail
Becker, Meeker and Otter Tail counties are new to the list this year. Carver, Rice and Scott counties were taken off. The 13 counties are determined by their total number of drunken driving deaths and alcohol-related serious injuries during a three-year period.
“These counties account for a great portion of our drunk driving tragedies and investing in DWI enforcement and education can help prevent impaired driving incidents,” said Jean Ryan, DPS Office of Traffic Safety impaired driving coordinator.
From 2009 to 2011, there were 11 deaths from Wednesday to Sunday for the Thanksgiving travel period. More than half were the result of a drunk driver. 1,631 drivers were arrested for DWI as well.
