Worthington Woman Sentenced in Wal-Mart Kidnapping

A Worthington woman accused of making a bomb threat, taking a Wal-Mart cashier hostage and forcing her into the parking lot has been sentenced to about six months in jail.

Elisheba Swett pleaded guilty in September to kidnapping and terroristic threat charges for the crimes June 14 in New Ulm.

She was sentenced Tuesday to 187 days in jail, but credited with 125 for time already served, and 20 years of probation.

The 38-year-old was also ordered to pay a more than $3,100 fine, complete chemical use and psychological assessments and, if deemed appropriate by counselors, write an apology letter.

Witnesses told authorities Swett released the cashier when police arrived. No explosives were found.
