Brooklyn Center Man Pleads Guilty in Murder of Friend

A 19-year-old Brooklyn Center man pleaded guilty to murder in the deadly shooting of his friend.

According to the Hennepin County Attorney's Office, Deshawn Roberts pleaded guilty to second-degree unintentional murder in the death of 16-year-old Terrence Creamer.

The shooting happened last April in Brooklyn Park's Central Park. Police Inspector Todd Milburn said his officers were called to the park where they found victim, later identified as Creamer, with a gunshot wound.

Roberts told police he was shooting at someone else. According to the criminal complaint, a group was in the park for a barbecue. "There was a disagreement that caused a number of individuals to meet together in the parking lot," it said.

The complaint says Roberts was there and was going to fight with another person.

"A witness stated he observed defendant grab a gun, turn around, and start shooting," according to the complaint. "Other witnesses stated they heard six to seven shots in rapid succession." Creamer was hit in the head with a bullet, and later died.

A check of Minnesota criminal court records found Roberts has a past convictions for burglary, robbery, and assault.

He is expected to be sentenced to 21 years in prison. Sentencing will take place Nov. 19 at 1:30 p.m.
