Truth Test: Is Bachmann Right about Muslim Brotherhood?

A TV ad airing in Minnesota's 6th Congressional District race claims Republican Michele Bachmann is right about the Muslim Brotherhood.

This summer she claimed the Muslim Brotherhood, an Islamist political organization founded in Egypt in 1928, has infiltrated the "highest levels" of the U.S. government.

Her claim was harshly criticized by Democrats, including her opponent Jim Graves, and by Republicans like Sen. John McCain and House Speaker John Boehner.

Now, a TV ad by the National Republican Trust PAC makes the case that Bachmann was right.  The ad claims the Muslim Brotherhood was involved in the attacks on the U.S. Consulate in Libya in September.

Watch our story and find out why this ad gets a "D" on the "Truth Test."

How We Grade Political Ads in "Truth Test"

At the end of every "Truth Test," 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS and KSTP.COM assign the tested political ad a grade.  Here's the criteria we use to determine that grade.

An "A" requires nearly complete accuracy with little exaggeration and little or no need for more context.

A "B" requires mostly accurate information, but gets marked down for minor exaggerations and misleading information.

A "C" can be the result of inaccurate information or exaggerated information that misleads and gives the viewer no context.

A "D" is the result of at least half the information being false or misleading to the point of leaving a false impression.

An "F" is the result of more than half the information being outright false as well as misleading and out of context.
