UPS Driver Killed in Mpls. Shooting Remembered Fondly by Customers

New details are emerging about the UPS driver killed in Thursday's Minneapolis shooting.

50-year-old Keith Basinski of Spring Lake Park was a father of three who spent 29 years working for UPS. Based at the Minneapolis hub, he spent most of his career serving the Bryn Mawr neighborhood despite opportunities to switch routes. Those who live and work in the neighborhood describe him as part of the community.

Customer Gerry Seiler, owner of Cockadoodledoo Gift Shop, said of Basinski "Keith was a cornerstone to Bryn Mawr....he was I believe just an incredible part of everyone's life." Another customer, Robert Gillem of Cuppa Java Coffee added, " when we heard Keith was involved it really hit hard... he's just such a good guy, you know just one of those people in the world that just works really hard and is never negative." Seiler also told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS that members of the community plan to build a permanent memorial in Basinski's honor.

UPS released a statement from Jill Schubert, President of the Northern Plains District: "We are profoundly shocked and saddened over this tragic event involving our driver, Keith Basinski. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family and the families of the other victims. We also pray for the full recovery of others injured in the shooting. Keith had been part of our UPS family for 29 years and we are going to miss him very much. We are cooperating fully with authorities in their investigation."
