20 Indicted in NM in Drug Trafficking Conspiracy

Federal authorities in New Mexico say 20 people have been indicted for allegedly participating in conspiracies to distribute drugs from Mexico to seven states.

All of the defendants are accused of drug trafficking and money laundering in two federal indictments unsealed Thursday in U.S. District Court in Albuquerque.

The indictments claim 16 of the defendants used pickup trucks to transport large quantities of marijuana and cocaine from Mexico to New Mexico, Colorado, Wisconsin, Indiana and Iowa since January.

Others are accused of transporting the drugs to New Mexico, Colorado, Minnesota and Tennessee since May.

Authorities say 18 of the 20 people indicted now are in custody. Six were arrested in Las Cruces, N.M., four taken into custody in Denver and the others were arrested in Texas, Utah, Wisconsin and Oklahoma.
