Local Referees Weigh in on Replacement Referee Frustrations

The NFL announced Tuesday that it will uphold the Seahawks win over the Packers in Monday night's game. They also said officials should have called a pass interference penalty which would have ended the game with a Packers win.

Despite final word from the League, fans are still taking their outrage to social media. But former high school and college football referee Steve Hurvitz reminds fans, referees are human.

"It was a terrible call. The guy that made the call, or the two officials that were on the play, do you know how bad they feel right now?" Hurvitz said.

The NFL and the NFL Referees Association negotiated for a fourth straight day Tuesday but did not reach an agreement. The main sticking points are pensions and salaries. In the meantime, replacements will have to fill in.

High school and college football referee Tom Wollan says the replacements are stepping in for some of the best in the world and are facing two major challenges.

"One, the sheer speed of the game, the size of the individual that's playing you can't replicate at any other level. And secondly, the rules in the NFL are so different," Wollan said.

"Without these guys, there's no game. So now what do you do? You go to the bar and commiserate because there's no football," Hurvitz said.
