Man Gets Denied Insurance Claim Overturned with Help from Stranger

Richard Dehn was denied a $10,000 claim for a biopsy to detect possible prostate cancer.  His doctors ordered the biopsy because Dehn had symptoms and a high-risk for prostate cancer. But, his insurance company, Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield, told him the procedure was experimental and denied his claim.

We featured their plight in June on 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS. That's when someone they didn't even know reached out to help.

Elizabeth Mies works for Professional Service Bureau. It's a company that specializes in appealing denied insurance claims. This time, Mies saw our story, contacted the Dehns and offered to help them appeal their case free of charge. Mies offered her services because her parents both died of cancer. Mies spent the past three months working to get the appeal overturned.

And now, an independent third party health care panel has given the Dehns a victory by overturning the denied claim. The insurance company is now required to pay the $10,000 biopsy treatment. And the best news of all is Richard Dehn recently had the biopsy done and the tests came back cancer free.
