Jury Awards Man $7M for ‘Popcorn Lung’

Can popcorn really hurt a person’s health?
A Denver jury says “yes,” awarding $7 million to a man for a condition he believes is Popcorn Lung.
The condition is usually found in popcorn plant workers who are exposed to an artificial flavoring found in popcorn butter.
Wayne Watson says the lawsuit wasn’t about the money; he’s giving the money to charity.
"They thought that no consumer would ever be exposed to enough of it to make a difference,” Watson said. “Well, they rolled the dice and they lost."
Gilster-Mary Lee Corporation, Kroger, and Dillon Companies were named in the lawsuit. Kroger plans to appeal the verdict.
