Orono Police Discover Squad Cars on Fire Overnight

Overnight, Orono Police discovered their squad cars were on fire. Two were destroyed and a third was damaged.

Authorities arrived at the scene around 3 a.m. Friday following a report of an explosion. The cars were sitting in a parking lot at the police station on Kelley Parkway in Long Lake.

No one was hurt in the fires, but the total loss is estimated at $100,000. The cars were on fire for about 10 minutes.

The police department hasn’t ruled out arson. They say they found some evidence nearby that could be considered a fire accelerant.

The Orono Police parking lot is under surveillance, and investigators will be watching the footage to see if someone intentionally set the fires.
