More Uptown Residents Get Permit Parking

Parking in Uptown just got a lot easier, or harder, depending on who you ask.

Two new streets were recently granted 'critical parking' designation, meaning only residents of that street with permits may park there during most hours. This comes in response to a rise in the popularity of the area and parking being hard to come by.

The new rules, which affect Knox between Lake and 31st and Girard between 31st and 32nd, went into effect August 27.

The process to become a critical parking area doesn't start with the government, but with residents collecting signatures of at least 75% of people who live on the block, supporting the change.

This is not new to Uptown, sections of Emerson and Freemont have been designated critical since 1999. However, it is by no means common in the area, and the question now is how many more blocks will follow.
