Big Lake Man One of Five Killed in Nebraska Crashes Sunday

A truck driver from Minnesota was one of five people killed in a pair of crashes in western Nebraska Sunday.  The Nebraska State Patrol said the second crash happened in the backup caused by the first crash.

The Omaha World-Herald reports 27-year-old Keith Johnson of Big Lake was driving on Interstate 80 about 4:30 Sunday morning.  Another semi had stopped because of mechanical problems.  Johnson's truck slammed into the back of the stopped semi.  Johnson was killed.  The driver of the stopped semi was not hurt.

The newspaper reports a second crash happened in the backup.

In that crash, a semi crashed into two cars.  One of the cars was pushed under another truck.  The drivers of both cars as well as two passengers were killed.  The driver of the semi was "arrested on suspicion of four counts of manslaughter and one count of careless driving," according to the newspaper.
