A dog in California could be very helpful in the fight against invasive species in Minnesota.
Popeye the chocolate lab sniffs boats for zebra mussels. He’s so good at it that California counties paid his owners $3,000 to have Popeye spend the long weekend sniffing out the invasive mussels.
When he smells the mussels, he sits down and gets a reward. Popeye didn’t find any zebra mussels this weekend in California.
