Stillwater Residents Push for Municipal Pool After Boy's Death

Some Stillwater residents are pushing for a municipal pool after a 9-year-old boy died from a rare amoeba infection.

City Administrator Larry Hansen tells KSTP.com although it would be great to have a pool, there's not enough room in the budget.

Hansen says a municipal pool has been an ongoing discussion for the last 20 years, but the new push is because of the death of Jack Ariola Erenberg.

Tests by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed that Jack contracted a rare form of meningitis, apparently while swimming in Lily Lake.  The lake is now closed for the rest of the season.

Hansen says Stillwater resident Judy Gulden plans to hold a meeting on this issue in September.
