Medical Examiner: Wis. Toddler Drowned Accidentally

Preliminary autopsy results reveal 3-year-old Renna Williams died from an accidental drowning.

After nearly a 24 hour search, the little girl was found dead in a canal near her Danbury, Wis., home Wednesday afternoon.

Sheriff Dean Roland tells KSTP rumors are swirling, and people can be assured that everything is being checked and double checked.

Police are still in control of the home where Renna went missing.

Investigators drained and searched the canal Thursday. Although no evidence was found in the water, investigators used the drained canal as an opportunity to make a special 3D image of the area.

Roland says the image could be used if the case goes to court.

At this point, it's unclear what led the little girl into the woods Tuesday.

According to a family friend, Renna's mom was sleeping and her dad was watching her. Renna's dad apparently went into the house to get something to drink, and that's when she disappeared.

Hundreds of volunteers searched the area, and a dive team found Renna's body in the shallow canal.

Roland says Renna's mother was shopping during the search when the little girl's body was found.

Investigators are not saying whether Renna's death was an accident or whether a crime was committed.
