Commerce Department Refutes Claims of HMO, Medicaid Auditing

There’s new information that shows no one knows exactly how $4 billion tax dollars are spent on Minnesota’s Medicaid program.
But the four insurance companies that run the program insist they’re audited all the time.
One of the HMO’s lobbyists told a state Senate committee that their books are double-checked by state regulators and undergo 12 different audits and reviews from organizations like the Commerce Department.
KSTP obtained a letter from the Commerce Department that says otherwise.
When asked if they audit the four HMOs and Medicaid, the answer was, in part, “No, Commerce has not audited government-funded health plans.”
There are several federal investigations of Minnesota’s Medicaid program already underway.
