Divers Find Body of Missing 3-Year-Old in Canal

The body of a 3-year-old girl who went missing from her northwestern Wisconsin home has been found.

Burnett County Sheriff Dean Roland says around 4:50 p.m. Wednesday dive team members found the body of Renna Williams in a shallow canal about 25 yards from her home in Danbury.

The sheriff's office received the missing child report around 7 p.m. Tuesday. Renna allegedly wandered away from her home in search of a dog. The home is located on a 40-acre island in the middle of Yellow River.

Relatives say Renna's mother was inside sleeping when she went missing. The sheriff says her father was the last person to see her. Relatives say he had gone inside to get a drink.

Authorities searched by air and on the ground until about 3 a.m. and resumed the search at daylight Wednesday. Hundreds of volunteers and law officers searched for her.

The canal will be drained to allow investigators to look for evidence that might explain what happened. An autopsy is planned.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
