Minn. DNR Simplifies Sales of Turkey-Hunt Licenses

Minnesota wildlife officials say the state's turkey population has rebounded so efficiently that hunting applications for the fall season will no longer have to be distributed by a special application and lottery process.

The state Department of Natural Resources says for the first time, turkey hunters will be able to buy licenses over the counter.

The DNR says the lottery system isn't needed anymore because in past years there have been more fall licenses available than the number of hunters who applied.

A Mesabi Daily News report says there are an estimated 60,000 wild turkeys in the state, and more than seven million across the country.

This fall's 30-day season runs from Sept. 29 through Oct. 28.
