Mother Accuses Backpage.com of Stealing Her Daughter
A Minnesota mother says she found her daughter in the adult classified section of Backpage.com.
Amber, who's asked her last name be withheld, says her only daughter Mary is using the popular web site Backpage.com to advertise as a prostitute.
It started two years ago when Amber says Mary disappeared, only to come home weeks later and in debt to a man for a $6,000 breast enlargement procedure. Afterward, Amber says Mary disappeared again and would only call every few weeks from different parts of the country.
Amber blames Backpage.com, in part, and is asking the site to shut down the adult section of its classified ads.
Minneapolis is considering a resolution asking Backpage to do the same. It's similar to one the Saint Paul City Council passed earlier this month.
Backpage says resolutions are not effective ways to deal with sexual trafficking. It does not have plans to shut down its classified ads.
