EmailJobs Fair Unites Military Vets with Employers
Across the nation military veterans face higher unemployment rates than other Americans.
The problem is especially acute among Minnesota National Guard soldiers who recently returned from a long tour of duty in Kuwait. Among military veterans who've served since 9/11 nationally, the unemployment rate was about 12 percent in 2011.
However, state estimates indicate the unemployment rate among recently returned Minnesota National Guard soldiers is more than 20 percent.
"I can't think of anything anyone could do to contribute to the success of their business or their enterprise and contribute to the success of the State of Minnesota than to hire a veteran," says Governor Mark Dayton.
The governor attended a jobs fair for veterans in Brooklyn Center organized by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development.
Employers on hand were as diverse as US Bank and PawnAmerica.
Dayton also proclaimed July as "Hire a Veteran" month.
