Farmington Investigates Salary Packages of High-Paid Employees

The Farmington City Council wants to figure out how some of its highest paid employees got their deals, some without Council approval over the years.  For example, the city's Human Resources Director has tripled her salary over the past twelve years with several promotions and not all of them approved by the Council. Brenda Wendtland earns 106-thousand dollars to oversee a city employee payroll of less than one-hundred.

City Council member, Julie May, tells 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS, there are five department heads and one City Administrator in the city.  Each has salary packages that exceed 100-thousand dollars a year and combined it is nearly 800-thousand dollars a year. May says the city will start talking about doing things differently. One idea might be outsourcing jobs or combining some jobs.

The City Council's investigation is expected to take several months.
