Ex-Gopher Corky Taylor Dies

Former Minnesota basketball player Corky Taylor has died of complications from lung cancer.
The university said Taylor died Thursday at age 60. Taylor was in hospice care at his home in the Twin Cities area.
Taylor played for the Gophers from 1970-73, a member of the 1971-72 team that won the Big Ten championship. In 51 games for Minnesota, Taylor averaged 3.3 points and 3.7 rebounds.
Taylor was more known for his part in the brawl that broke out on the Williams Arena court between Minnesota and Ohio State in 1972. But current head coach Tubby Smith says Taylor was a mentor to many former players and "helped tremendously" in his transition to Minnesota.
Smith says Taylor helped his job "run a lot smoother because of his guidance and encouragement."
