Northern Minn. Businesses: We're Still Open

Despite the devastating scene in northern Minnesota, the message many businesses want to get out is to keep your travel plans.

The first big weekend of the summer is a busy time on the North Shore.

"We would hate for some misconceptions for people to cancel their reservations," said Sally Nankivel with the Cook County Visitor's Bureau said.

Nankivell says The Lutsen 99er is still happening, and The Wooden Boat Show and Summer Solstice Festival are also on in Grand Marais.

In St. Louis County, even with the unimaginable scene, Duluth Mayor Don Ness says visitors can still have a grand time.

"We want to make it clear that Duluth and this region is open for business," Ness said.

While some roads look like an earthquake destroyed them, Ness says folks in the Twin Cities will not run into trouble on major roads.

The Becker family from Cannon Falls made it to downtown Duluth just fine.

"Absolutely, I'd still come," Jenny Becker said. "Everything is still open. We've been to lots of different shops, eating has been good."
