A Minneapolis teenager has pleaded guilty to fatally shooting another teen in a south Minneapolis alley.
Malcolm Jackson pleaded guilty Tuesday to second-degree murder in the death of 16-year-old Trequan Sykes.
Jackson, who's a student at Minneapolis South High School, told a Hennepin County judge that he shot the victim twice.
The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports Jackson could get up to 25½ years in prison when he's sentenced July 24.
Sykes' family wanted Jackson indicted for first-degree murder. But prosecutors believed the evidence of premeditation wasn't strong enough.
Jackson had fought with Sykes' brother two weeks before the June 1 shooting. Jackson originally was charged as a juvenile but agreed Monday to let his case go forward in the adult system.
