Men Escape Sinking Pick-up on Lake Minnetonka
Hennepin County authorities are reminding people to use caution on area lakes after a truck went through the ice on Lake Minnetonka Saturday, the second vehicle to do so this week.
The sheriff's office says two men in a pick-up truck broke through the ice on Smith's Bay. They were able to escape the sinking vehicle through the windows and make it safely to shore.
Last Sunday a man and a juvenile escaped their SUV after it broke through the ice on Halstead Bay Channel. They also escaped through their vehicle's windows; neither was hurt.
The sheriff's office says there is open water on Lake Minnetonka, and ice thickness remains variable due to the warm temperatures and freezing and thawing of the past several weeks.
