MPCA: Park Your Car to Improve Air Quality
The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency is encouraging residents to carpool or use mass transit in order to combat air pollution.
The MPCA issued an air pollution health advisory for Monday and Tuesday after monitors detected high levels of fine particles in the air.
Officials say recent fog and a lack of wind has allowed the particles to build up.
Motor vehicle emissions contribute to fine particle pollution so the MCPA is asking for motorists to drive less during the start of the week.
The MPCA expects to lift the advisory by Wednesday when clean, dry air is forecast to arrive.
Elevated levels of air pollution can negatively effect people with respiratory or cardiovascular problems, young children, the elderly, and persons who are physically active. People in these groups may need to reduce vigorous activity.
