The St. Paul School District has a new leader.
In an unanimous vote Monday, the school board decided to offer the job to Valeria Silva.
Silva is the district's current chief academic officer.
According to the district's web site, she won the 007 University Council for Educational Administration Excellence in Leadership Award.
Silva is a native of Santiago, Chile,
She has served as a principal, assistant principal, curriculum coordinator, specialist and teacher.
Silva also teaches at the University of Minnesota, where she is pursuing her doctorate in Education Administration.
Silva beat out two other finalists for the job. They were Dr. Deborah Henton, currently the superintendent in North Branch, and Dr. Charles Hopson, the deputy superintendent of schools in Portland, Oregon.
Silva replaces Meria Carstarphen who left St. Paul for a superintendent's job in Texas.
