Mound Asks for Donations for Holiday Decor

It could be a dim holiday season in one west metro suburb, if the public doesn't pitch in.

The City of Mound says it doesn't have enough money to pull off its annual holiday lights display, so officials are asking for donations.

The city has already spent its budget of $400 to repair broken lights. It doesn't have any more money to buy the new strands of lights and individual bulbs needed for the display.

The city sent an email to businesses and residents asking for donations. Officials are hoping to raise $500.

City officials know it's a difficult time to ask for donations, but they point out the festive look brings in holiday shoppers.

One local company has offered to donate some money. City officials are hoping to fast track the donation so they can get it by Thursday.

They need to start buying and installing new lights by the end of the week because the city has a tree lighting ceremony scheduled for next week.
